Vacation land Rhineland-Palatinate: seven attractive regions

Rhineland Palatinate, the German Federal State furthest west in the country offers an extraordinarily rich and diversified vacation with its seven regions: "The romantic Rhine, Lahn and Taunus", " Rhinehesse", "Eifel-Ahr", "Mosel-Saar", "Hunsrück-Nahe", "Westerwald" and the "Palatinate".

Rhineland-Palatinate

The differences between the idyllic river landscapes, the natural low mountain region, the historical towns and villages, romantic mountains as well as the well known wine regions give the vacation state of Rhineland Palatinate its special charm.

Johannes Gutenberg

Johannes Gutenberg

Johannes Gutenberg, citizen of Mainz , as is so well known to everybody, invented the printing press. His invention was constructed on the basis of the normal wine presses found in the Rhine-Main region in the 15th century. Gutenberg improved and adapted the principles of this press to the purpose intended by him. Fitted with a screw it facilitated the smooth printing of the complete paper surface. Just lately, a team of American authors voted Gutenberg as one of the most important persons of the millennium. 163 leading technology experts from Germany put the discovery of the printing press in front of the computer as the discovery of the millennium

900 years of Hildegard von Bingen (1098 - 1179)

In 1997 and 1998 Rhineland-Palatinate and especially the town of Bingen honored the life work of the famous and popular saint and abbess Hildegard von Bingen on the occasion of her 900th birthday. She is accepted as one of the most important women of the middle ages and is known far beyond the Rhineland-Palatinate borders of her birthplace, Rhinehesse. Her contemporaries were inspired by her as well as people today who still search for spirit, orientation, inspiration and grace in her works. She died in 1179 on the 17th September at the age of 81.
